Josh Schermer, the owner and founder of Downtown Pets
was born and raised in New York City. He has always had a
strong connection to the animals of NYC. “I remember trying
to save a stray animal froman abandoned building one
Summer. I must have been only 5 or 6 years old. I went
there every day, got an ASPCA trap and everything but
this little guy was not coming out easily. But one day
I got lucky and was able to grab him. The next day some
construction workers blew up that very building.
Ulysses as he became known spent the remainder of his
life with me and my family. I guess from that point on
I’ve looked at it as my job to take care of animals.”
